“I am delighted to be part of the University’s education department. Our teacher education program is unique: students participate in daily group meditation while studying to become exemplary classroom teachers.
“One aspect of our teacher education programs that I am especially enthusiastic about is the experience students have even before student teaching. After taking some basic “foundational” courses, students who want to become elementary or secondary teachers study different areas of the curriculum not only with a college professor, but in school classrooms working with a mentor teacher and elementary or secondary students. In this way they gain valuable experience even before they are assigned to a classroom full-time during student teaching. Our students appreciate their teaching experiences, the guidance and level of faculty attention they receive, and the opportunity they have for personal growth and self-development while at the University.”
